Hello to All!
I have said in an earlier post that we would take a look at "Domain Names" as a potential investment, Now might be a good time.
DNJournal.com reported that the Domain Name MoneyWatch.com sold recently at Sedo.com (Sedo is a domain brokerage house) for $125,000. This is old news already to investors and followers of the domain market, but is certainly noteworthy to the traditional investor. Many people do not know that there is high demand for very good domain names.
What is a Domain Name? This is the title of any Internet site that you visit. If you are a visitor to the site BankRate.com as an example the name (BankRate.com) is the domain name. Okay if you already knew that, excuse me, but for those that didn't know, this topic is going to become more and more interesting!
The domain name sets the tone for the associated website and is the owner's international banner the world around. The Internet has no boundaries (unless censored by a government), so you can begin to see how valuable a good domain name can be.
Think about domains such as Business.com, Coffee.com, Investment.com, etc. The sky is the limit on the price of these type of domain names. The value is what the end user is willing to pay, and that can be a 6 or 7 figure number. Yes this is true!
You might say, that is interesting, but how would I make this type of investment and earn a profit. This is the question isn't it?
Most people have heard of .com, .net, .org and .info. There are a multitude of other domain name extensions and many are country specific. .Us (United States), .Ca (Canada), are examples and the list is quite extensive.
To obtain a domain you have to register the name (if available) at a domain registrar (there are many), buy the name from someone who already owns it, or at an expiring auction, I don't want to make this to complicated, and I can provide much more information on this subject if you are interested. Please contact me for more information at mike@1investments.net
When you obtain a domain name, you are registering it for a specific period of time. 1 year, 2year, 8 years, etc. You have to maintain current registration or you will lose your rights to the name.
There is plenty of room for the average investor to make a profit with domain names. It is not uncommon to buy a domain name for a small sum ($10 -$30) and to sell in what is called the aftermarket for a few hundred dollars. A good name might sell for more as mentioned earlier, and a very good name could surprise you in a big way.
Please let me know if this topic is of interest and I will be glad to go into greater detail as to what makes a good domain name and how to buy and sell them. I am an investor myself and would invite you to visit my website http://www.joedomainer.com/ Here you will learn much more about the domaining world and see examples of many names that are on the market.
Thank you for visiting.
Mike
